PLAYING RAAVAN HAS TAUGHT ME A LOT : KARTHIK

Bhopal : An extremely popular actor in the south film industry, KarthikJayaram made his Hindi debut with STAR Plus’s show, SiyaKe Ram. The actor was in Bhopal on a Tuesday afternoon to speak about his character and the upcoming Vanwaas track on the show.

“The role of Raavan is special to me. Very rarely any actor gets a role that makes them go down in history. I take pride in every character that I have played and after being selected amongst the 9000 auditions this makes me very lucky. After I gave the audition I wasn’t expecting a call back from the production house, but when they did tell me that I’m on board, my joys knew no bounds.”

Quiz him about how he prepared himself for the part and here’s what the actor has to say. “I am playing the role of Raavan, I think that is enough only to imagine all the challenges that come along with this character. When the makers approached me, they had specific guidelines about the way they wanted the character of Raavan should shape like.

Ever since I was signed for the role, I have been undergoing rigorous training to get into proper shape, I’ve been growing my hair and beard as well. One special thing about Raavan was that he was a self-proclaimed biggest bhakt of Lord Shiva and he used to do the Tandava as well. So, while I did actually had time on hand before I begun shooting, I even took basic Tandava classes to learn the art so that if and when I have to shoot for it, it isn’t new to me and I can easily pull it off.”

Since the very beginning, SiyaKe Ram has been bringing forth unseen facets about the Ramayana. While people do know about Raavan, not many know that it was Mandodari who got Raavan the ‘kalash’which had the liquid that made him immortal. The entire track successfully depicted Raavan and Mandodari’s journey; under what circumstances did they get married and how Mandodari’s parents abandoned her because she married Raavan.

Currently, viewers are witnessing the war between Raavan and his enemy VidyutJeevha; his sister Surpanaka’s husband. Surpanaka marries VidyutJivha which doesn’t go down well with Raavan. At a later stage, when Raavan kills VidyutJivha, Surpanaka curses her brother to the fact that the reason behind his death would be a female; Sita.

As is the Ramayana, after the larger than life celebration of Sita and Ram’s union, time has now come for them to leave for the Vanwaas along with Lakshman. This will witness the beginning of Sita and Ram’s marital journey post their marriage after leaving the kingdom. It is during the Vanwaas where Raavan’s character will be seen in its truest sense. It was this iconic war between Ram and Raavan reiterating that good always triumphs over the evil.
